I have been a personal trainer for 12 years, and am certified through the American Council for Sports Medicine (ACSM). I am also a certified GYROKINESIS® Trainer. I have been priviledged to have had extensive training with Louis and Nestor Savas.

As a teenager I was a professional ballet dancer with Ballet Chicago for 4 years and upon moving to NYC became a modern dancer with Misnomer Dance theater for 10 years. Having a dance background gives me a unique understanding of anatomy and kinesiology. My BFA in sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design gives me an excellent eye for form and also a creative approach to your program design.

I have been teaching flying trapeze for 5 years at the Trapeze School New York (you may have seen us over by the West Side highway at Houston St). I became interested in trapeze wanting to challenge my body and nerves. After 10 weeks as a student I was hired on as a teacher. One of the many things I love about trapeze is there are always more challenging skills to hone and the level of fitness required is top notch. I have had the honor of working with Dr. Louis P. Savas D.C. who taught me so much about the body. He was well versed in injury prevention and injury rehabilitation, and his use of energy on patients was fascinating. He had chosen Aikido as his martial art because of its use of energy, and was the founding member of the 18th St. Dojo.

I have also worked with Nestor Savas LMT, an avid strength athlete who had an exciting rehabilitation practice for decades! His specialty was fixing those patients that were told they had to just live with their limitations.

What is ACSM?

ACSM promotes and integrates scientific research, education and practical applications of sports medicine and exercise science to maintain and enhance physical performance, fitness, health and quality of life. What is The GYROKINESIS® Method?

The GYROKINESIS® method is a movement method that gently works the entire body, opening energy pathways, stimulating the nervous system, increasing range of motion, and creating functional strength through rhythmic, flowing movement sequences. It is an original, and unique movement method which has benefits & qualiies similar to those found in Yoga, Tai Chi, gymnastics, and dance.

At the point that my sister recommended Abbey to me, I had retired my theatrical career, put on a ton of weight and hadn't worked out in years. My body felt like a 'blob'......literally, 'dead' from the neck down!! I could barely do 1 minute on the stationary bike, or more than 2 or 3 repetitions of any exercise she gave me. With her supreme patience, kindness and masterful knowledge of how 'older bodies' work......I, slowly, became toned and fit, to the point where my muscles are strong and firm, plus, I now have great endurance, and energy.
